Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) roped in a new spinner, Adam Zampa, for the 13th edition of the league as Australian pacer Kane Richardson opted out of the league. Zampa, who is on international duty with the Aussies in the bilateral series against England, spoke about his love for whisky, coffee and the need to carry a microwave along with him on cricketing tours.

"I've always taken a couple of bottles of whisky on tour with me," Zampa told BBC. "A few of the boys have started to do it too."

The leg-spinner has developed a reputation in the Australian dressing room where others also come up to him with their whisky bottles and they all sit together and enjoy the blends.

"We have a whisky club. At night people will bring different bottles. Some like Japanese. I like Scottish Highlands. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have started to enjoy it and a few other guys are starting to dabble."

Zampa's love for whisky can be understood with the fact that he also has a tattoo of a whisky glass on his left wrist.

Coffee remains another passion for Zampa and in times like these where the players often get locked up in their hotel rooms, others often gather in his room which has been branded as 'The Love Cafe'. The same was also discussed during the docu-series The Test.

"Regular guests are Marcus Stoinis, Kane Richardson, Alex Carey - all good friends of mine," he explains. "Anyone is welcome.

"The Love Cafe part of the documentary was a good insight into who we are outside of cricket. When it first came out I was getting messages from people saying they loved that bit in The Test, wanting to know where I get coffee from and how I brew it."

Zampa also remains to be a vegetarian but has made his lifestyle choice because of his love for animals and not in relation to on-field performance. Because of the situation, he often carries a microwave and frozen dishes with him.

"I'm not vegan to help my performance," he says. "I did it because I care about animals and the environment. It's really easy for me because I'm passionate about it."

The situation becomes such that food takes most of the place in Zampa's briefcases as he jets out to different parts of the world for cricketing assignments.

"I've only brought about three T-shirts and two pairs of pants so I can fit in all my food and all my appliances," he says.

"People come into my hotel room and say 'you're a great packer'. I've got everything here. A microwave, all my coffee, all my elixirs - apple cider vinegar and my nutritional yeast. Packet mac and vegan cheese, miso soups, tea, all my favourite mugs and peanut butter. All that comes with me.

"I've had to learn along the way. Here in the bubble I've ordered some frozen vegan meals that I can heat up in the microwave. You find different ways around it."

After the completion of the England vs Australia series, Zampa will be flying to UAE directly for the IPL. Under skipper Virat Kohli, who is also a vegan, Zampa can expect some company for sure.
