Broadley, BF girls three-peat on Thetford trail – Brattleboro Reformer

THETFORD Bellows Falls junior Abby Broadley won her third consecutive individual Division 3 title at Saturdays state cross-country meet.

Abby earns her shine with her work ethic, said Bellows Falls coach Josh Ferenc. Shes only like 51 but she can really push herself. She was tattoo cladded and shes a little warrior.

Broadley prevailed in 19:43, just six seconds ahead of runner-up Emily Bloom of Rice. Also scoring for the Terriers were: Steph Ager (4th in 21:10), Victoria Bassette (5th in 22:45) and Birgess Schemm (17th in 24:56).

Ferenc said that Ager was phenomenal and that Bassette is incredibly fit.

Birgess just kept running her race. I watched her run down girl after girl. She did everything that I asked her to, the coach mentioned.

The Bellows Falls girls, which had won the last two D-3 team titles, defeated Thetford 27-33 to defend their state championship once again.

Thetford is our rival, but they are a good rival. Theres no bad blood, Ferenc explained. Our girls just grind. They were incredibly relaxed before the race.

The Bellows Falls girls will compete at the All-State meet in Saint Albans on Saturday, with a goal of finishing in the top six.

In the Division 3 boys race Saturday, BFs Logan Comstock and Jared Atkins placed 85th and 89th respectively.

Brattleboro did not participate in the Division 1 races.

Some participants had conflicts, so the team chose not to compete this year, said Brattleboro Union High School Athletic Director Chris Sawyer.

Competing for Leland & Gray were: Emma OBrien (41st), Abbie Hazelton (60th), Peter Broussard (76th), Alex Parker Jennings (80th) and Nick Petronic (83rd).

Leland & Gray lost to Peoples Academy 5-0 in a Division 3 playoff game on Friday afternoon in Morrisville.

It marked the end of the high school soccer careers for seniors: Riley Barton, Matt Emerson, Luke Parker Jennings, Nathan Sanderson, Dylan Greenwood, Ethan Cutts, Kristian Pierson and Trevor Plimpton.

The Rebels ended up with a 5-3-1 mark.
