Police trying to ID woman hit by van – Times-Mail

A pedestrian was critically injured Monday night when she was struck by a van while crossing East Third Street. Police are trying to identify her, since she had no ID cards or other information with her.

The woman, who has been unresponsive since the 7:04 p.m. accident, was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital with severe head injuries.

BPD Detective Kevin Frank said investigators have been unable to speak with her. He released a photograph Tuesday afternoon of a hummingbird-and-flower tattoo on the womans right inner forearm, hoping someone will recognize it.

Anyone with information about the womans identity is asked to contact Frank at 812-349-3322.

According to a Bloomington Police Department report, a motorist driving a 2017 Dodge minivan called 911 to report he had just struck a pedestrian while eastbound in the 4400 block of East Third Street.

Police and emergency responders found the woman lying in the road in front of the van, which had damage to the fender, hood and windshield, BPD Capt. Ryan Pedigo said.

An accident reconstruction team was at the scene, about 20 yards east of Park Ridge Road, on Monday night taking pictures and measurements.

The 50-year-old driver was taken to the hospital for a blood draw, which is required in Indiana in crashes involving serious injury. Pedigo said the driver showed no signs of intoxication, called 911 right away and cooperated with police.

The driver told investigators he did not see the woman before the impact.

Pedigo said no one matching the womans description has been reported missing.
