Australian midfielder Jackson Irvine recently saw his leg go viral after a fan spotted a tattoo of The Simpsons character MoeSzyslak on his calf.

The iconicbarman can be seen suited up and grinning with the choice of ink quickly earning the Socceroo a number of new fans.

A writer ofThe Simpsons, Tim Long, even came across the tattoo on social media and joked: "I don't know who this guy is or even what sport he plays but he's now my favourite player."

The original tweet that pointed out Irvine's artwork has beenretweeted over 500 times with the exact clip his Moe tattoo referenced also dug up for comparison.

Irvine, who is no stranger to a tattoo, has since revealed his decision to add Moe to his leg was a spontaneous one, with he and his tattoo artist both big fans of The Simpsons.

Ive actually had it for a couple of years. I dont know how its just become a bit of a viral sensation," Irvine told The World Game.

"I have no idea how it made it to one of the writers of The Simpsons, but it was definitely far from what I expected when I signed for the club.

Its always been one of my favourite shows. It was actually just a joke between and the tattoo artist whos done a lot of my work. We always talk about The Simpsons and quote The Simpsons, and we hadnt planned it we just thought should we do a Simpsons tattoo it would be a laugh.

We decided on that Moe one because we thought it was funny. I wish there was a deeper meaning to it, but it was just for a joke.

The tattoo was spotted not long after Irvine sealed a move to Scottish club Hibernian, where he quickly impressed new manager Jack Ross on debut.

Irvine played the full 90 minutes on Saturday night as Hibs lost 3-0 in their Scottish League Cup semi-final against St. Johnstone.
